Who is my favorite president? That is a question I have never had to ask myself. There has been so many presidents that have done good things for our country, but there has also been some Presidents that have not done so well as far as the citizens of the United States are concerned. It seems that every elected president i have ever seen or heard of in office has done something wrong based on the fact that there are citizens that do not agree with a decision that he has made, whether it be sending our troops overseas to fight in a war or applying some type of law that they feel will help with our economy or improve the quality of life of the citizens. Regardless of what decisions are made it seems to be there will be someone that†¦show more content†¦In 1914 Roosevelt ran for a United States senate seat but lacked support from the White house. In 1920 Roosevelt was nominated for a vice president as James M. Cox’s running mate but lost. While vacationing in New Brunswi ck, Canada Roosevelt contracted polio. Roosevelt refused to face the fact he was permanently paralyzed and tried numerous therapies looking for a cure. Roosevelt was never able to regain full use of his legs, but established a foundation in the warm springs in Georgia to help others suffering from polio and later on began a march of dimes program that developed an effective polio vaccine. Roosevelt worked hard to teach himself how to walk again, although it was for short distances and using braces, he never gave up and he made sure he was not seen in his wheel chair in public. In 1928 Roosevelt ran to be governor of New York and won by a small margin. In 1930 Roosevelt saw his opportunity to run for presidency and began his endeavor. Roosevelt believed in government intervention in the economy to provide the citizens relief and recovery. By the time Roosevelt took office in 1933, there was over thirteen million Americans that were unemployed and there was hundreds of banks closed do wn. When we are trying to build a good relationship with someone some points to remember are to always be polite and respectful to who ever we are talking to. Even if we donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬TMt agree with everything they are saying. Always listen and talk with respect, ask questions about what they are saying and discuss and talk things through. We may not always agree with others but by listening discussing we can avoid a confrontational situation, which may lead to an uncomfortable environment. We want both sides to feel comfortable talking to each other and communicate well so future conversations are possible with out and bad feeling. The fight over gun control in America has been an open-ended, heavily argued and very controversial issue in U.S. government for years. Although the pro-gun argument is reasonable, it treads a fine line of violating American individuals second amendment right to bear arms. Pro-gun government believes that stricter gun control laws will decrease the number of violent crimes committed in America, as well as prevent the access of guns to criminals and those who intend to do harm with them (Kleck, G., 2009). There is no solid proof that has been presented that offers substantial evidence that stricter gun control laws will have any significant impact or decrease on crime in America. During the Revolutionary War the use of firearms played a significant role in the fight for independence for the British (Second Amendment, 2010). For centuries before and after the Revolution, guns were used for means of survival. They were used to provide food as well as income, but they were also used for protection. Arthur Millers, A View From The Bridge allows us to witness the tragic consequences of one mans jealousy and an unforgivable crime to his family and friends. With his dramatic techniques in speech and in stage directions, Arthur Miller is able to create a dramatic atmosphere in many parts of his performance. He also provokes the audience to empathize with Eddie when using these skills. The first section I studied was The Phone-Call. In this scene I think that Eddie is trying to do what he thinks is right. Alfieri can see what he is going to do but cant stop him. Eddie can only see one answer to all of his problems. When Eddie and Alfieri are talking before the phone call, we are provoked to empathize with Eddie because of some of the things that Alfieri says. We know that Eddie is a strong willed man and will not be told what to do. Alfieri states, The law is only a word, for what has the right to happen. Here Alfieri is trying to subtly hint towards the fact that Eddie is wrong. Miller makes us feel that Eddie is helpless and we empathize with him, he is alone and no one is able to set him on the right track. (He gathers himself almost peremptorily) Eddie is determined to do something about his problem. We can see through Millers techniques that Eddie really wants this and would do anything for it. The Phone Box is a central image and because of this, Miller creates a tense atmosphere using a lonely blue light on it. This signifies Eddies feelings and emotions. The audience can now relate to Eddie as a person in need of help. After the phone call to the immigration bureau, we can see that Eddie is in regret. The stage direction at the end of the phone call is most powerful of all out of this scene. Evidently he is being questioned further, and he slowly hangs up. As the other caller gets into the depth of the conversation we can see that Eddie is coming to terms with what he has done. What with all of the anger built up inside of him, Eddie didnt really think about the full consequence of what would happen after the phone call. Therefore as the call ended he had had the time to think it over. As it is something that most people do at times in their lives we are able to relate to Eddie. This makes us empathize with him; it is a mistake, which a lot of people make. We feel even more for Eddie when we realise that he is on his own from now on and no one is going to be there to help him.
